The U.K. Subs at SO36 in Berlin, Germany on 31 May 2024.
The second of the 2 consecutive U.K. Subs gigs at SO36 in Berlin last night was definitely the more packed, rowdy and warmer of the 2. Sound-wise it just about beat the already excellent first night by a small margin to my ears.
Nasty Rumours were once again a brilliant opener. No pictures of them this time unfortunately, as I had to leave my phone on the charger for the duration of their set. This gave me the opportunity to dance and sing along to them in full voice.
The U.K. Subs were once again on top form and seemed to be relaxed and enjoying themselves, with all band members smiling throughout their set. Gwinny was kept busy mopping the stage (or was it polishing Charlie’s shoes?) and changing Steve’s guitar when it packed up. I shared voluntary ‘protection’ duties with James Good for the evening, ie. making sure that the more exuberant members of the audience didn’t cause any harm to the ladies down the front. So, my photos are from the 2nd part of the show only, mainly from the encores, along with some of the pre-gig drinks with Charlie and Yuko near the venue, and the band meeting up to go and get photographed for some publicity shots.
I came out of the gig drenched in sweat and aching from being knocked in the back by the moshers. But an enjoyable 2 evenings in Berlin all the same.
