GBH in Drachten on 1 December 2023.

An absolutely cracking lineup for this show in Drachten in the Netherlands tonight, originally billed as GBH and The Exploited heading the bill. It got even better when The ‘Special Guest’ was announced as being the U.K. Subs. It’s not often you get to see the ‘Holy Trinity’ of Punk Rock at the same club gig and my top 3 punk bands of all time on the same bill. Perfection 🙂

I managed to take quite a few reasonable pictures at this show, thanks to the excellent lighting conditions and my good positioning at stage front. So, 3 different posts for the blog from tonight, each covering one of the 3 main bands on the bill. First up, the turn of GBH.

The lighting meant that, for a change I was able to get quite a few decent shots of drummer Scott. It’s often the case at gigs that there are very few, or no pictures of the drummer, as they tend to be tucked away at the back in the darkness. I don’t think it’s because they are generally all so damn ugly, although that may be the case for certain bands (not GBH, of course!). Anyway it’s probably best to keep the lights trained on the proper musicians. Sorry drummers .🤣🤣🤣

GBH gig number 10 of the year for me, and my last time seeing them in 2023. I am just so grateful that these guys are still playing at the top of their game all these years after seeing them for the first time back in the mid-80s. Idem for the Subs and The Exploited. The current GBH set is pretty much entirely made up of the band’s classic songs. My particular favourites are ‘City Baby’ (x2), ‘Generals’ ‘Drugs Party’ and ‘Diplomatic Immunity’ The latter is not a permanent feature of the current set, but gets an airing every now and again, much to my enjoyment. Singer Colin doesn’t seem to age and still has the moves from the old days and still looks as cool as f*ck. 🙂

A brilliant show from the first of the punk rock royalty to take the stage tonight. For the final song, cover of Motörhead’s ‘Bomber’, the band is joined by Tour Manager Unai on bass guitar. Cracking stuff.
