Something Bitter at NBQ Fest in Poole in October 2023.

So, onto the 2nd gig from the Mistakes that we go to this week, at the inaugural ‘Never Be Quiet’ (NBQ) festival in Poole, UK. As soon as this is announced, me and my son decide to extend our family visit to Poole (coincidentally) by a few additional days, for the 2nd time this week (the 1st to see the Mistakes a few days earlier in Southampton).

The festival is organised from scratch by the Mistakes in a matter of a week to 10 days, following an earlier cancellation of a gig scheduled for the band Something Bitter, who are over from the States. It is incredible that the guys manage to pull this off at such short notice, with a great lineup of (mainly) local bands, and entry to the festival is free of charge.

The venue is the vaulted cellar of a lovely traditional Poole pub, The Blue Boar. The cellar, previously known as ‘The Cavern Club’ mainly hosts comedy nights, but a few bands have also played here before. It has its own separate entrance from the pub, and its own dedicated bar. It’s a balmy Sunday night tonight and it seems that the pub hasn’t really expected such a large turnout. We eventually drink the bar dry of beer before the evening ends. πŸ™‚

These are the bands that we manage to catch today/tonight, culminating in the Mistakes, one of my favourite “young” UK punk bands of the moment :
PlasticGold
Meat Sweats (no ‘The’ πŸ™‚ )
Something Bitter (from the US)
The Crash Landings
Kill The Colossi ( the drummer must be the twin of the drummer from the previous band πŸ˜‰ )
The Mistakes

We have seen Something Bitter in Southampton a few days earlier, and my son has been listening to their music on rotation since then. So he joins them onstage to sing along to his favourite track of theirs, which they play for the 2nd time this evening, as their well deserved encore.

A brilliant impromptu festival with great bands, fantastic people, in a great venue. No more extensions to our visit to the UK now, as we are definitely off back to Belgium tomorrow. πŸ˜ƒ Roll on NBQ Festival 2 next year.
