Grade 2 at Club 85 in Hitchin, UK on 2 December 2024.
A short hop over the Channel for a couple of gigs by the brilliant Grade 2 from the Isle of Wight this week. First up, a gig at Club 85 in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. A bit odd this, as both of the gigs that I am seeing are down the road from each other in the county of Hertfordshire, just North of London. Indeed it does seem that some of the audience have chosen to attend on of the gigs over the other, so it might have somewhat diluted the attendance at each gig.
In any case, the lads from Grade 2 do not disappoint, playing 2 cracking gigs, full of energy. The venue is quite a large room on the 1st floor of a modern building that reminds me of a typical UK community centre, Apparently it is a dedicated live music venue and the room itself has a pretty good atmosphere, and the staff are very friendly. I am even allowed to take my kebab bought at the nearest takeaway up to the venue to eat there.
There is an announcement that the venue is under threat of closure, which would be a shame, as I can’t imagine that there are many such places in Hertfordshire. Definitely worth the trip over to the UK, and looking forward to my 2nd gig tomorrow in Hertford which is only around 30km away.
The backdrop to the band is a projected image of the Grade 2 logo, so this leads to some strange effects on some of the photos where the image is projected onto the band members themselves as they stand in front. 🙂
