Gigs in Essen are always good fun, although the security at the Turock this evening are a bit on the aggressive side. However, Maid Of Ace are quite simply ACE this evening. ๐Ÿ™‚

The sisters play a blinder of a set to a packed crowd, several of whom I recognise from when the band played next door at Don’t Panic last year. Hopefully, the next time they play in Essen, it will be back at Don’t Panic, my preference of the 2 venues that are next door to each other here.

During the set, drummer Abby has a problem with the nut holding on her crash cymbal and asks me to come on stage and watch that the cymbal does not fall of its stand. The cymbal duly stays in place for the rest of the set, so I am in a prime position to take some pix from the rear of the stage, until one of the security guys throws me off. I then return to my usual spot front of stage on the right.

Guitarist Anna manages to break a couple of strings on her guitar and takes bloomin’ ages to tune her replacement axe. ๐Ÿ˜‰

A busy merch table after the show is a sign of a good gig. I manage to get quite a few decent photos this time, as the lighting is pretty good. Unusually, I manage to get some good shots of bassist Amy who is often too far away and/or lurking in lighting obscurity on stage left.๐Ÿ˜„

I look forward to seeing the ladies again in France on Friday, probably for the last time this year. A great gig, and after sharing a jaeger bomb or 2 with the band, I happily head back to my hotel.
