The Mission at The Pavilion, Whitby, UK on 27 October 2023.
Originally it was my intention to skip Whitby on this tour, mainly due to the logistics of getting there from Manchester and then onto London for the final gig tomorrow. However, the kind offer of a lift from Manchester and finding a last minute reasonably priced place to stay tipped the balance. Lastly, the kind offer of a guest list place by Wayne for this sold out show meant it was a no brainer.
I have to admit that I have never been to Whitby before, even though it seems to be the goth Mecca in the UK. I have therefore managed to avoid the Whitby Goth Weekends and other such festivals, but this gig is part of Tomorrow’s Ghosts festival, so that’s another thing ticked off my list.
I intend to have a good look around the town before the gig and hopefully get a glimpse of the abbey, as well as get to see some of the goth posers-about-town. Unfortunately, it is absolutely tipping it down this afternoon, so I head directly to the pub and catch up with some mates. At least I get to see some of the goth posers who also retreat to the pub to escape the miserable weather.
Another great gig, surrounded by many friends and other likeminded people. There is even a marriage proposal in the audience part way through the set. I am sure that Wayne and the band did not quite understand what was going on when a section of the crowd started applauding. 🙂
On to London tomorrow for the last of this string of gigs, and another offer of a lift for part of my journey, which is happily accepted.
