Redeemon at Rebellion Festival, August 2024.

Prize for the most unusual / unexpected performance of the weekend has to go to Redeemon, apparently hailing from London and Manchester.

I wandered into Club Casbah on Sunday afternoon looking for something new to discover, as I had a gap to fill before Dirtbox Disco’s set. The name Redeemon didn’t give much away, so I thought I’d check them out. I am not a huge fan of ska music, so I was a bit hesitant about staying when I saw the saxophone, trumpet and trombone set up on stage. However, sticking to my “minimum 3 song” rule, I decided to give them a chance.

Much to my pleasant surprise, the band’s sound was an eclectic mix of ska brass section, combined with hardcore/metal vocals, guitar and bass. And oddly, it really worked. The lead singer took turns at screaming out the lyrics and playing snippets of trombone, with his shock of curly red hair giving him a strong stage presence.

I ended up staying for their entire set and really enjoyed it, despite all the indications to the contrary. Unusually, I took some video of the set, so that I could look back afterwards and fully process exactly what I had been watching. 🙂 The video has ben posted on my Facebook page.

I see that Redeemon are already announced amongst the first bands who will be playing Rebellion 2025 If there is no major clash, I will certainly go and see them again.

  1. Pook is a bit of a legend in the skapunk /skacore scene having been in / played with many bands from the genre over the last 10 / 15 years of so. If you liked these check out The Filaments, Faintest Idea, Beat The Red Light, Random Hand

    1. Cheers Kev. I checked out Faintest Idea at Rebellion, but they didn’t do it for me like Redeemon did. It turns out that I have met Pook when he was driving for Roughneck Riot who we supported with Down Per Pint in Arlon in 2022. Steve
