Slalom D at Rebellion Festival in Blackpool, UK on 1 August 2024.
I was first introduced to Slalom D by Stephen Staughan, guitarist with the UK Subs, when I went to Sunderland to see him play with his other band, HiFi Spitfires. Steve is from Sunderland and mentioned that I might like Slalom D, who are also from the City. I duly checked them out and was blown away by their most recent album, “Waltzing Into Anarchy”. The sound is more post-punk to my ears, rather than classic punk rock, and the album is an absolute killer, with not one single filler track on it.
Having not managed to see the band live before, the Slalom D performance at Rebellion 2024 was one of my ‘must sees’ this year. The Arena was already pretty full when the band came on stage, the new layout making it seem more intimate than previously. An obviously nervous Fiona (singer) seemed a bit overwhelmed by the size of the crowd in front of her, but she soon got into her stride, and her and the band delivered a brilliant, assured set.
A great band with memorable songs who I am sure have made many new fans after this performance. I hope it’s not too long before I get to see them again.
