Trisomie 21 at The Basement Club, Madrid, Spain on 13 April 2024.
The second Bored Teenagers gig in Spain turned out to be too far to get to from Madrid. So, looking around for something to fill the spare evening, I came across Trisomie 21 playing in the city.
T21 was a name that I knew, but I had never really listened to them, let alone seeN them live. I knew that they were French and had been around for ages, but always thought them to be a shitey bleepy bleepy electronic band. After being reassured by some French speaking friends who know my taste in music that I would most likely enjoy them, I bit the bullet and bought a ticket.
The first pleasant surprise was when the band hit the stage to see them with proper musical instruments (i.e guitar and bass). There were of course keyboards on stage and drums were provided by a machine, but the bulk of the sound was handled by the guitar players. The bass player was pretty impressive, a real metronome on certain songs. The songs themselves were a little challenging without that many hooks, but I generally enjoyed what they played.
Having subsequently listened to a few recordings of T21, I wouldn’t rush out to see them again. But I enjoyed the show.
