The Exploited at Punk Legends Fest in Budapest, Hungary on 24 May 2025.

Another fun weekend at another great festival at the weekend: Punk Legends Fest 2025 in Budapest, Hungary.

A decent sized festival with 2 covered stages and, most importantly, cheap beer. πŸ™‚ The larger Red Stage features most of the “international” bands, apart from Discharge who play on the smaller Blue Stage alongside bands from the local region. Quite a gap between the bands and the audience, so photos are somewhat blurred, but they give an idea of the atmosphere at the festival.

First up on the Red Stage are GBH, with Ross over from the States on bass duties. For the final song, Bomber, Unai from the GBH management team takes over on bass. Towards the end Ross comes forward brandishing what looks like a knitted roast chicken (!) that has been thrown on stage.😳 Great performance as always by the first of the true Punk Legends of the event.

Next up on the Red Stage are Anti Nowhere League who receive a huge reception from the crowd. A brilliant set and the band seem to be enjoying themselves judging by the huge grin on drummer Jamie’s face. Great stuff.πŸ‘

Over to the Blue Stage for the first and only time, for Discharge. They are a band that I have seen the least out of all the original UK hardcore bands, and I am less familiar with their back catalogue. But, I absolutely love this performance. Hard hitting and in your face punk rock. Who says that you mellow as you get older? In my case, that’s definitely a load of b*ll*ks.πŸ˜„ I seem to be getting harder in my music tastes and this gig definitely makes me want to see more of Discharge. Fantastic🀘

Last up on the Red Stage are The Exploited. It gets quite lively down the front and particularly for the traditional audience stage invasion for Sex and Violence which ends the set. Not sure if they were planning to play a song or 2 after S&V as usual, but it was maybe too chaotic to get everyone offstage afterwards. No denying that Wattie is a true Punk Rock Legend and still sounding great and going strong despite all the health issues. PUNK’S NOT DEAD!
